Do you have demographinc information to supplement this answer? Income, age and rural/urban would be good metrics. The answer you've given is for the question of "how many" not "who" plays the games.

Hi Jon, We know that 51% are male, 49% are female. In terms of age, 47% of our players are over the age of 50, 28% are between the ages of 35-49 and 25% are in the 19-34 age group. 59.3 percent of players hold post secondary degrees, 12.3% have some post secondary education and the remaining 28.4% have either high school level or less education. Additionally, 61% of our players have incomes of more than $50,000 annually, 28% fall into the $25,000-50,000 income range and 11% have incomes of less than $25,000. Mireille@AtlanticLottery

How do ALC know who buys all the Tickets? When you go into a store and buy a ticket , no one asks how old you are or where you're from or any info. I kinda think a lot of poor people buy tickets. How many times have we heard from people who said all I had was 5 dollars in my pocket and I bought a ticket. so explain, how do you really know?

Hi Geno, thanks for asking. Atlantic Lottery collects player information through a voluntary telephone survey that has been ongoing for almost 20 years. The telephone survey samples Atlantic Canadians from all provinces to ask about their lottery purchase behaviour and demographic questions. We do not collect transaction level data on who is purchasing what products or how much money they make. Players who purchase tickets through alc.ca are required to provide their age and address upon registration to ensure compliance with provincial 19+ laws and demonstrate that they live in Atlantic Canada, but no further demographic information is collected.
