Responsible gambling training is provided to all VLT operators. Several features are available on the VLTs to assist players in managing their play:
- Gambling helpline number advertised on all machines
- On-screen clock which displays real time
- All wagers and amounts won are displayed in dollar amounts
- Pop-up reminders will occur after 60 minutes, 90 minutes and 120 minutes of play with a cash out warning at 140 minutes of play. Mandatory cash-out from game occurs at 150 minutes of play
- Maximum amount that a player can bet on one play is $2.50
- Highest prize in any game ranges from $500 in NB and NL and $1,000 in PEI and NS
- When a player’s bank reaches $60, the bill validator will not accept additional funds
- Automatic cash out activated when player’s bank reaches $1,000
There are also voluntary features available on VLTs in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland & Labrador. They include:
- the ability to set money and time limits;
- the ability to track historical money and time played; and
- a self-assessment tool and an RG tutorial
